Visit Nami Island
Nami Island, which is also referred to as Naminara or Nami Republic, is one of tourists’ most-visited destinations outside Seoul. Given its captivating beauty in all four seasons (I love it most during autumn and spring) and its feature in the Korean drama Winter Sonata, locals and travelers from across the world make it a point to visit Namiseom at least once.
Nami Island is perhaps most popular for its Korean Pine Tree Lane. This is the long and narrow road lined with trees that you’ve probably already seen on photos, vlogs, or reels. The tree lane looks stunning whatever the season is, which makes it the ultimate photo spot on the island.
Other sites you shouldn’t miss include the The Maple Lane of True Love (on the island’s center), the Cherry Tree Lane, the stunning Metasequioa Lane, the must-visit Gongsaengwon Garden (where you’ll find a statue depicting the couple from The Winter Sonata), and the Gingko Tree Lane. As you explore these spots, expect to find adorable creatures like rabbits and raccoons wandering about.
Aside from the nature-themed spots, you can also have a good lunch the island by visiting Nammoon (Korean cuisine), Seomhyanggi (famous for their dalkgalbi), Ddanji Pub (Italian cuisine), or Yeongajiga Lunch Box (inexpensive Korean food). Don’t forget to swing by any of the cafes like Sonata Cafe for some coffee and desserts!
Nami Island sits 63 km away from Seoul, so it is best to book either (1) a packaged day tour that will take you to the island and nearby attractions; or (2) take the Nami Island shuttle bus from Seoul.
For DIY Travelers: Nami Island to Seoul Shuttle Bus, Entrance Ticket, & Activities
While there are a lot of packaged Nami Island tours from Seoul, many still prefer to create their do-it-yourself adventure. If you’re leaning towards this option, all you need to do is plan how you’d want to get to Nami Island from Seoul (either via shuttle bus, train, or car rental) and book your admission tickets to Nami Island.
1. Nami Island Shuttle Bus Ticket (Departs from Seoul)
For around $25, you can get to Nami Island from Seoul via a direct shuttle bus. This is the most convenient and reasonable option since you wouldn’t have to transfer between trains and buses if you were to take the public transportation. You can be picked up from Hongdae, Dongdaemun History Culture Park, or near Myeongdong Station and will be riding a bus to get to the island’s entrance (I’ve taken it two times over the last 4 years). You can then enjoy 5-6 hours of free time, which is plenty enough to cover the entire island, have a meal (or two), unwind in a cafe, and take lots of photos. When it’s time to leave, you’ll ride the same bus and head back to Seoul.
