When my friends and I traveled to Taiwan, we used this pocket WiFi that we picked up at Taoyuan International Airport. It’s the most popular WiFi egg for tourists (booked 1M+ times), and it starts at only $3.2 per day (get 3-5% off when we book here with our coupon code TRAVLISTS). If you want to skip the security deposit or providing your card details, you can book this Taiwan SIM card with unlimited data instead.

In a nutshell
- Best SIM card for Taiwan. This title goes to this SIM card from Chunghwa Telecom, the leading telco in Taiwan. This option comes with unlimited data for 3-30 days and comes with credit for local and overseas calls. (If you are a user of KKDay, you will find the same SIM card on their site here.)
- Best WiFi egg. For Taiwan, my go-to pocket WiFi is this option that can connect up to 5 devices at once and can gather internet signals from multiple carriers like Chunghwa, Far EasTone, and Taiwan Mobile. It’s also available for pick-up at various airports like Taoyuan, Taipei Songshan, and Kaohsiung.
- Taiwan eSIMs. As an alternative, you can also try getting an embedded SIM or eSIM. It works exactly like a traditional SIM card, except that you don’t have to pick it up at an airport and insert it into your phone. You can just purchase one online, install it in a few clicks, and you’re all set to go online. (The most popular eSIMs for Taiwan are this eSIM from Klook and this 5G eSIM from Airalo, which you can book with our coupon code TRAVLISTS.)
- Top things to do in Taiwan. If you haven’t yet, consider booking this rail pass in Taiwan, this well-reviewed day tour to Yehliu Geopark, and these convenient airport transfers.

Popular Pocket WiFi on Klook (No Security Deposit!)

Booked more than 1M+ times on Klook, it’s safe to say that Unite Traveler’s lightweight Taiwan WiFi Egg is the best option for tourists. What I like about this pocket WiFi is three things: it is easy to collect at Taoyuan Airport, it comes with no security deposit requirements (for incidentals), and it can provide strong internet for up to 4 devices — perfect for small groups of friends or family, couples, and digital nomads.
With this WiFi, there was no need for me or my friends to swap out our primary SIM card with a tourist SIM. As soon as we turned the device on, all of us were able to go online until the end of our 3-day stay. (The device gathered signals from Far EastOne, which is one of Taiwan’s major networks.)
Chunghwa SIM Card for Taiwan

For SIM cards, what our team at Travlists would recommend is Chunghwa Telecom’s SIM card. You can choose to get a 4G or 5G SIM card, but I’d definitely suggest getting the 5G option since there is not much price difference. If you are booking a Taiwan SIM card, note that you will need to show a valid ID (passport) upon collection, must be 18 years of age, and only 1 SIM per person is allowed.
Alternatively, use a Taiwan eSIM!
These days, many travelers in Taiwan have also switched to using an eSIM or a digital SIM card. There are many eSIMs available (see the full list here), but we recommend getting one from Airalo. They are the world’s first eSIM store that offers 5G data plans for just $4 for 7 days (get 15% off with our code TRAVLISTS15). We recommend this provider for their user-friendly interface and affordable unlimited data plans for heavy internet users.

Aside from Airalo, many of our readers also go for Klook’s Taiwan eSIM. Aside from being affordable (starts at $0.8), the eSIM is quite easy to install and manage. It’s activated right on the app, which many first-time users will find convenient to set up.
