Hong Kong Ngong Ping 360 Guide for Visitors 2026: Ticket Price & Cabin Types

If there are a few things that I’ve picked up from my conversations with the Ngong Ping 360 team, it’s that this attraction offers more than an efficient way to reach Ngong Ping Village. Ngong Ping 360, the cable car attraction in Lantau Island, Hong Kong, is all about enjoying the scenic views of Lantau from up high.

That said, when I was planning my Hong Kong trip and thinking about riding the cable car with my group of friends, choosing which cabin to book took longer than expected. There are three types, and I found the differences a bit confusing. In this guide, I’ll break down each cabin type based on my experience with the goal of helping you see which Ngong Ping Cable Car cabin is actually worth it for your group.

What We Recommend

  • BEST OVERALL: Crystal Cabin
  • BEST FOR VIEWS & TAKING PHOTOS: Crystal+ Cabin
  • LIGHT ON THE WALLET + GREAT FOR FAMILIES: Standard Cabin (only around $21 for a one-way trip)
  • FOR LARGE GROUPS: Private Standard Cabin

If you’re in a hurry and want our quick recommendation, choose the Crystal Cabin. It sits in the middle of the Standard and Crystal+ options, allowing passengers to enjoy the glass floor without spending a lot. This is what my friends and I chose to ride. We were generally satisfied, even if the cabin design looks a bit outdated when compared to the new Crystal+ Cabin.

Pro tip: You can also view Ngong Ping 360’s discount promotion on Klook. While offers vary from time to time, they are offering up to 29% off on ticket bundles (minimum purchase of two tickets), as well as a reduced offer for Crystal+ Cabins. This promotion runs until September 2026.

Experiencing Hong Kong’s Famous Cable Car

When my high school friends and I visited Hong Kong, we chose to ride Crystal Cabin at Ngong Ping 360 instead of the Standard and the Crystal+. For our group of seven, it felt like the ideal choice since we were all traveling on a budget and had to purchase eSIMs, transportation passes, and Hong Kong Disneyland tickets. We just spent around $37 per person for a round-trip cable car ticket and a few extra bucks for food and drinks at Ngong Ping Village. Overall, we were satisfied with our choice — although one member in our group, who was afraid of heights, did not really enjoy the experience as much. (If your group is not a big fan of ropeways and heights, I’d recommend taking the public bus from Tung Ching to Ngong Ping village instead. It’s called the New Lantau Bus 23, and it’s a safer alternative.)

Ngong Ping Cabin Side-by-Side Comparison

CABIN FEATURES & WHO IS IT FOR OUR TAKE
Standard Non-see-through floor & wide windows. Ideal for budget-conscious travelers Practical choice
Crystal Glass floor & wide windows. Recommended for most travelers and first-time visitors. Best overall choice
Crystal+ Floor-to-ceiling glass cabin with 360-degree views of the island. For those who want a premium experience and those who want to shoot content. Excellent for showcasing Lantau through images/reels
Private Exclusive ride — excellent for groups & couples Only for special occasions

For most tourists, the Crystal Cabin offers the best balance between price and experience. While the Standard is popular, I don’t think it offers the full experience like the Crystal Cabin, which features a bird’s eye view of the route through the glass floor.

No matter which cabin you choose, do note that all types will follow the same route, and you will get to admire the sights of Tung Chung Bay, Nei Lak Shan (the sixth-highest peak in Hong Kong), Lantau North Country Park, and Tian Tan Buddha. It is also worth noting here that, except for the Private Option, the cabins are shared, so most likely you may be sharing the cabin with 6-8 passengers.

Cabin Types Explained

1. Standard Cabin

This is your regular, entry-level cable car with distinct blue panels on the body. The floors are non-see-through, but the window size is large enough for sightseeing (I’d say around 55% of the cabin). You will definitely be able to see the stunning landscapes of Lantau Island from the inside. This is recommended for families with kids who want to get the classic Ngong Ping experience.

  • THE UPSIDE:
    • Most affordable
    • Good head-level views of the surroundings
    • Recommended for those who are not fans of heights
    • Fast 25-minute transfer to Ngong Ping Village (vs. 45-60 minutes if you take the bus from Tung Chung Station)
  • THE DOWNSIDE:
    • The interior is not so aesthetic (especially if you want to take a photo of the cabin interior).
    • More expensive compared to taking a public bus to Ngong Ping Village

2. Crystal Cabin

Unlike the first option, the Crystal Cabin has prominent yellow-orange panels on the body and highlights a glass floor. This provides another sightseeing angle of Lantau and that “nature-under-your-feet” vibe. The see-through floors gave me a bird’s eye view of Tung Chung Bay waters, as well as the mountain slopes. I feel that this justifies the $8 difference between Standard and Cabin tickets.

As for the similarities, the window-to-cabin ratio of the Crystal Cabin is around the same as that of the Standard (around 55%). The design also looks very similar — you get thick cabin frames, although the glass flooring really adds charm.

  • THE UPSIDE:
    • Additional bird’s eye view of the surroundings through the sturdy glass floor
    • More enhanced experience that’s recommended for first-time visitors, friends, and couples
    • Reasonable price difference from the Standard
    • Strollers are allowed (must be folded)
  • THE DOWNSIDE:
    • Cabin design is regular (again, may not be aesthetic unless you focus on the glass floor)
    • The see-through floors may not be ideal for those who are scared of heights

3. Crystal+ Cabin

This is the top-of-the-line cable car that offers a panoramic 360-degree viewing angle of Lantau. The design of this Cable Car is sleek, showcasing a thinner frame and 80% glass body. It definitely looked premium and may give guests that feeling of riding in a bubble (it’s that open!). Definitely recommended if you want to film yourself inside the Ngong Ping 360 cable car.

  • THE UPSIDE:
    • Floor-to-ceiling views of the island through the 80% glass enclosure
    • Premium and safe cabin designed by Ngong Ping 360 and European firms
    • More memorable experience for first-time visitors
    • The interior is very aesthetic — excellent for those who want to take selfies or reels.
  • THE DOWNSIDE:
    • Pricey (the round-trip Crystal+ ticket is around 138% more expensive than the Standard round-trip and almost 100% higher than the Crystal return tickets)

What if you want to take the Crystal+ Cabin but want to save money? I recommend purchasing the bundle that comes with a one-way Crystal+ Cabin and a one-way Standard Cabin instead. It will save you more than $25.

  • Choose the Standard Cabin if you want the cheapest option and are not comfortable with heights. You will enjoy a wide window viewing experience without spending a lot.
  • Go for the Crystal Cabin if you want the balance of affordability and an enhanced sightseeing experience with the glass floor. This is the safest option and has great value for money.
  • Pick the Crystal+ Cabin when you want to have the ultimate and unobstructed experience as you go to and get back from Ngong Ping Village. Also, if you care about taking photos and videos.
  • Charter a Private Cabin if you don’t want to share the ride with others (great for proposals!) or shoot content freely without interrupting others.

Most Visitors Make These Mistakes

To get a pleasant viewing experience, you may want to take note of these tips:

1. Don’t purchase tickets on-site

I say this for two reasons: you’ll waste time in the queue and you’ll pay the full ticket price. (When my friends and I arrived in Tung Chung Station, there was a long line for people who did not book online. Thankfully, our tickets that we purchased on Klook gave us access to the lane reserved for those who pre-purchased their tickets. There was still a bit of a wait — around 20 minutes on a Tuesday morning — but we had saved around an hour!

2. Arriving mid-afternoon

Around 2:30-4pm is the peak hour window, so it will be very crowded at the station.

3. Not planning the departure time in Ngong Ping Village

While everyone should take their time to discover everything in the village, I suggest avoiding taking the cable car back to Tung Chung when it’s too close to the last departure time. Many (including myself) got frustrated about the long lines back to Tung Chung Station. We waited for almost 2 hours. It could have been avoided if my friends and I visited much earlier and end our day at the village 2 hours before closing.

4. Bring an umbrella

Ngong Ping Village is an open space. While there are shops and restaurants, you will most likely be out in the sun. Best to bring an umbrella for protection. Will also come in handy in case it rains.

What to expect in Ngong Ping Village

While the Cable Car ride is a full experience in itself, do note that it is essentially a mode of transportation to get to Ngong Ping Village. (The travel time is just 25 minutes, which is shorter than the bus ride that can take 45 minutes to 1 hour). Once you arrive, you’ll find a cultural and nature-themed attraction that is worth spending time in. Feel free to share this section to convince your family or friends if they are hesitating about riding the cable car!

3. Explore the rustic Tai O Fishing Village

This charming fishing village just 15 minutes away from Ngong Ping Village is one you shouldn’t miss! Most tourists recommend visiting Tai O to see the rustic side of Hong Kong. Should you decide to visit, make sure to take a boat ride here so you can experience both an air transfer (via the cable car) and water transfer (via the boat ride) in a single day!

To save money during your trip to the Fishing Village, consider getting the Tai O Pass, which includes the following:
